- The inhabitants were at war against one another.
- The inhabitants were destroying one another with nuclear weapons.
- The system was under the control at the time of of a highly developed form of life, which intervened to prevent an extraplanetary catastrophe. The inhabitants adhered to the advice of this highly developed form of life before reaching total annihilation.
